Double Hung Style

Single Hung Style

The single hung style (left photo) is a replacement window with the top panes are fixed in place and does not move, but the bottom panes slide up and down.  The bottom will tilt-in for easy cleaning.  This style is less susceptible to air infiltration, or leakage, simply because the upper sash is fixed. The upper sash cannot develop looseness the same way a moving sash can. All single hungs are double pane windows with double strength glass. It is also considered as Energy Efficient windows by the NFRC. Low-E Glass is added to the exterior glass and Argon gas is in between both panes on top and bottom sashes. Color options are limited with the single hung style, as well as other many other options.

Double Hung Style

The double hung style (right photo) is a replacement window that has two sashes that operate vertically for ventilation from either the top or bottom of the window unit. Both sashes may tilt in for safe and easy cleaning from inside the home. Balancers counter the weight of the sashes to provide easy operation and to allow the sashes to remain open in any position. By installing replacement single windows, you will also increase the energy efficiency of your home. As newer windows feature improved technology—including more energy efficient glass, frame, insulation, and more. You can learn more about the double hung style here.
