With this May House of the Month 2022, we see another example of how homes that are over 40 years old can be retrofitted with energy efficient windows. Shiloh Salazar of Big Spring, was tired of her single pane aluminum windows that came with the home built in 1975. This type of window does nothing for insulation not to mention you have zero sound reduction. So, you hear traffic, kids playing outside, and your neighbors.

Our sales rep, Vanessa Wint, wanted the Salazars to get the most out of their new windows. Their house had very old vinyl siding that had seen better days.
The color was faded to different degrees in different areas so it looked mismatched. This would undoubtedly affect the appearance of the new windows and Shiloh agreed. Since she was already going to have our crew out there doing windows, she opted to go ahead and give the exterior of her home a complete makeover with new siding.

For windows, we wanted to give the house a modern style update as the old windows were mismatched. They had dark grids with traditional white trim and decorative faux shutters.
We went in with a gridless window plan that included:
- 7 Single hung windows
- Bay window with insulated & pre-finished white birch seat flanked by 2 double hung windows.
- White custom exterior window wraps and white coil trim
- Interior trim for bay window also in white
The windows fit beautifully and were wrapped on the exterior with a bronze trim coil. They melded perfectly with the brick and siding exterior of their home. Inside, the white trim blended well with their current décor.
Shiloh went with our suggestion of a darker color siding with white soffit and steel-white fascia to make the new windows really pop.
We also wrapped all the exterior doors in a white trim coil to bring it all together. Overall the job took just five days. Three days for siding, and two days for windows and door wraps. When all was said and done, the Salazars were thrilled with the new life it gave their 70s-era home.
