Today’s House of The Month has us giving a facelift to a house built just before the best decade ever—the 1980s. Yes, the era of massive bangs, neon-colored clothes, and DeLoreans that if you got up to 88 miles per hour—you’d see some serious stuff. Can you tell we miss the 80s just a bit?

Gina Martin called us and wanted to get rid of the old contractor windows in her house. Because—as if you don’t know already, contractor windows are horrible for efficiency. Gina’s home exterior is typical for Midland homes built in this era.
Beige and brown brick with brown wood trim and of course boring, aluminum contract windows clad in but of course, brown. Obviously, contractor windows aren’t trying for any style points either, but we changed all that.

Now, this was a fairly sizable order— 22 single hung, vinyl windows with double pane glass and two of our 2-lite sliding windows to match the home’s ranch-style architecture.
We wanted to make the windows one of the highlights of the exterior and not blend into the brick in such a boring fashion. So, we went with a beige color for both the window exteriors and interiors and no grids. This slight pop of lighter color and gridless windows gave new life to this home.
